Aamir Khan allegedly promoted homosexuality on the October 19 telecast of his popular television show Satyamev Jayate.
A court in Chandigarh issued a legal notice to the Bollywood actor, requesting his response by December 19 on the petition which was admitted by advocate Mandeep Kaur. The court of civil judge Jaswinder Singh accepted the petition on Friday, October 31, reports Firstpost.

According to Firstpost, in her petition, Kaur alleged that Aamir Khan's behaviour on the show was a violation of the Supreme Court order on homosexuality, upholding Section 377 which criminalises homosexual acts.
Through the petition, she sought the court's intervention to declare Khan's act a contempt of court. Satyamev Jayate is a weekly television show that was created and is hosted by Khan, and which not only deals with but highlights various social issues that are rampant in India today. The telecast in question had a discussion about the lifestyle and rights of members of the LGBTQ community.

Kaur alleged that the actor in his show had asked the public to vote for amendments in Section 377 of the Indian Penal Court (IPC), reports Firstpost.
Kaur goes on to claim that the actor is actually promoting a criminal offence on television through his show.
Firstpost also reports that Kaur has stated that along with the legal notice to the actor, she sought and unconditional apology from him with 24 hours after the telecast of the show, but she received no response from him.

LGBTQ activist Harish Iyer, in an email to BuzzFeed, had this to say about the entire incident:
“I have been in touch with the Satyamev Jayate Team since the inception of the idea of having an LGBT episode. It takes a lot of conviction to take a stand on an issue that so easily polarises people. I trusted Aamir to do that, and he did.”
“I am not surprised that the guardians of morality have emerged from nowhere against Aamir for standing up with us. I would suggest that Ms. Kaur tries yoga. Baba Ramdev seems to have a technique in yoga to get rid of homosexuality. I am sure, if she does the opposite that Baba Ramdev suggests, she could get rid of her homophobia.”
“Is it illegal to suggest “please ask SC to amend Section 377″?… if so, we are in a dangerous country.”
